Our Vision and Values

At Pickering Community Junior School, we work together to ensure that all children reach their full potential in a happy, caring and respectful environment. It is our intention to provide a wide range of learning opportunities in a secure and challenging environment, which develop and extend the key thinking and learning skills of all our children. At Pickering Community Junior School, we support each and every child to achieve to the very best of their abilities because we believe that education is our greatest liberator. We aim to provide a dynamic and engaging 21st century curriculum, which will help our pupils to grow up to be knowledgeable, independent, adaptable and responsible people, and prepare them for a world in which the only constant is change.

Quality of Education

‘Inspire to Aspire’

  • With empowered and enthusiastic staff who inspire children to achieve highly.
  • We enable our children to widen their horizons and aspire to personal excellence through the development of a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum.
  • By expecting and encouraging evidence-based teaching and learning initiatives that drive standards upwards.
  • We foster a thirst for the acquisition of skills and knowledge.
Behaviour and Attitudes

‘Taking ownership for our development as caring and pro-active members of our community’

  • By actively encouraging children to take ownership of their behaviour and their environment
  • By using positive relationships and a restorative approach to encourage all to live by core values – Tolerance, Ownership, Community, Aspiration, Resilience and Empathy
  • By rewarding outstanding behaviour as well as social and educational endeavour
  • With staff who are also pro-active members of our school community.
Personal Development

‘Building resilience and developing empathy’

  • Through an unwavering commitment to ensure all children are equipped with the personal and social skills for the future.
  • By embracing a culture of self-awareness and respect to allow us to grow as citizens.
  • By developing strategies to support our own mental health and well-being and that of others.
  • Through embedding a culture of care and aspiration, which encourages learners to strive for self-improvement.
  • By valuing self-esteem and celebrating our unique and individual strengths.
Leadership and Management

‘A leading school, pursuing excellence together for all’

  • With a collaborative responsibility for all children to succeed.
  • By encouraging the pursuit of excellence at all tiers of school organisation.
  • Because learning and well-being is at the heart our all our decision-making processes.
  • With accountability for pupil achievement throughout our organisation.
  • With teachers, leaders and support staff who model life-long learning.

We hope to achieve our vision for the school through high quality teaching and learning, and by adopting, modelling and encouraging our core values. These will help to support the development of the whole child as a reflective learner and will positively affect behaviour, contributing to the peace and well-being of our school community.
