PE And Sport Premium For Primary Schools
The government continues to make payments to schools under the Sports Premium Grant Allocation. This equates to £16,000 and then a further payment of £10 per pupil. Our allocation for 2024-2025 was £17,960.
It is stipulated that schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.
This means that the premium should be used to:
  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers
  • make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years
School Swimming Lessons
Pickering Community Junior School is committed to giving every child the opportunity to learn to swim confidently and ensure they are safe around water. Working in conjunction with 'Everyone Active' at Ryedale Pool and Fitness centre, we follow Swim England's School Swimming and Water Safety Award Scheme which fulfils the National Curriculum requirement to
  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
  • Swim competently, safely and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m
  • Use a range of strokes effectively, for example front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.
As swimming is part of the National Curriculum, all children are expected to attend lessons. However, we appreciate this is difficult for some pupils and we will work together with parents to help them overcome any fears and enable them to have a positive experience in the water. For those children who have already reached end of KS2 expectations, there is the opportunity to develop new techniques and skills in water polo, synchronized swimming and life saving.
